John McAfee (or McDuffee) 1725-40 prob. Islay, Scotland to Co. Antrim, Ireland
Looking for more information on my 4th great grandfather, John McAfee (or McDuffee) born about 1725 - 1740 probably on the isle of Islay, Co. Argyll, Scotland. He came to Co. Antrim, Northern Ireland as a young man with a friend, William McQuigg. John was a Presbyterian and farmer and said to have descended from Scots Covenanters. He died probably between 1800 to 1830 in Dunluce Parish, Co. Antrim. I descend thru his son, William McAfee b. abt. 1777 in Co. Antrim. He married Margaret "Martha" Taggart or Rea/Ray.
William McAfee Sr. & Margaret "Martha's" children include:
Samuel McAfee b. 1804 who married Grace Stinson
Sarah McAfee b. 1805 who married John McQuigg
James McAfee b. 1809 who married Rachel Dinsmore
John McAfee b. 1815 who married Ellen Dunlap/Dunlop
William McAfee Jr. b. 1821 who married Rebecca Swigart in Ohio
Mathew McAfee b. 1822 who married Margaret McElhinney in Ohio
Robert McAfee b. 1823 who never married.
Martha Jane McAfee b. 1825 who married David Orr in Ohio.
-------------
William McAfee Sr. and his family left Co. Antrim, Ireland arriving in New York City, NY USA on June 7th, 1838 aboard the ship "St. Andrew". They immediately traveled to Sugarcreek Twp., Wayne Co, Ohio where they settled. Their daughter, Sarah (McAfee) McQuigg and husband, John, came later via the same route aboard the ship "New York" arriving in NYC in July of 1843. They settled near Wooster, Wayne Co, Ohio.
Old John McAfee (or McDuffee)wife's name is unknown.
McAfee and McDuffee are interchangeable surnames in Scotland and Northern Ireland. It appears that my family used both surnames in N. Ireland.
Y-DNA tests seem to indicate that my family shares a common ancestor with *John McDuffee and "Matchless Martha" of Londonderry, N. Ireland. Perhaps additional Y-DNA testing by a descendant of that line will show the degree of relationship with my Y-DNA111 testing just completed.
Any information appreciated.
