I'm really not entirely sure WHAT my grandfather's real name was. So far, virtually nothing I've been told about him - and this wasn't a lot - has proven untrue or only partially true. His family DID come from the Eastern US, I'm told. I was told his father was William O Tennant (b 1852), and his mother Rosanna or Rose Ann Halliday (b 27 Sept 1859). His grandfather was George Tennant, married to "Ann". Rosanna's father was John Halliday, married to Elega. T.L is supposed to have a brother Oscar Tennant - whom I DID find, but he appeared to have a father named Amos - who had a son named Leroy not quite the right age, but close. I was told he was born in 1886 in Mandan, ND. I do know he died 6 Feb 1949, in Washington State. He may or may not have lived in Canada at some point. I was told he was a WWI vet, but cannot find records in either country as yet. The 1930 census, where he appears with my grandmother and mother, indicates he was married before, probably around 1900??? He was somewhat older than my grandmother (b. 1892), about 12-15 years. My grandmother and mother never talked about it. I got what I did from my dad and my grandmother's sister. It's really puzzling.
My mother was said to look somewhat like him, with the same auburn-red hair, etc. He was said to be of Scotch descent, and a strict Presbyterian, but how far back his family comes from Scotland, and whether they came via Canada I don't know. I've never had a more frustrating search.
