I have one "l" because I dropped an "l" but my aunt was Ida McDowell born 5 Januray 1918 and died 31 January 2004. Sometimes she was confused with Ida MacDowell (26 July 1897 - April '83) of New Jersey.
We had a Wells McDowell in our family and Smiths, mostly in Pennsylvania and New York.
