Gen. Irvine McDowell, was married to Helen Burden. She was the dau. of Henry and Helen McOuat Burden. They came from Scotland via Quebec. Settled first in Albany, NY, then Troy, where Henry owned the Burden Iron Works, which maked horseshoes. Helen met Irvin through Gen. Wool, who was also from Troy, NY. She married the then Capt. at the Second Presb. Church in Troy,13 Nov.1844. They had 4 children Irvin, Helen b. 1851, Elsie b. 1863 and Henry Burden McDowell.
Young Irvin died at 15,(7 Oct. 1868) and is buried with his mother in the family crypt at Albany Rural Cemetery. I have no info on the other 3 as of yet. The Major-General is buried at the Persidio, San Francisco, CA. Janie
If anyone has more on this family, it would be appriciated.
