From research, by dad's Cousin Ezane McDow Crumb, and I'll quote her...
"Robert McDow, son of John and Catherine Caryl (Carroll) was born in Jacksonham, Lancaster District, SC the exact date of birth unknown, but born prior to March 18, 1774, when his great uncle Thomas McElhenney willed him 100 acres of land.
He was a wheelwright. His wife nnamed Mary. In 1807, he went with his older brother John McDow Jr to the western part of the state and subsequently moved to Illinois. Afterwards, he settled in Boone County Mo.
He had four sons and three daughters:
1 William Mcdow
2 SAMUEL MCDOW
3 John McDow
4 Robert McDow
5 one unnamed daughter maried George Johnson
6 one unnamed daughter married Andrew Russell
7 one unnmaed daughter married Elijah Jackson
We have no further account of the Robert McDow family."

Again, this is from the work of Ezane Crumb MCDow.
As an aside, John McDow is believed to emmigrated from Ireland with the Brothers McElhenney, ca 1750, and who's mother was a Mcelhenney...working on that one.
