Black (surname) families in Ontario, Canada with McDOUGALL connections

I would like to correspond with anyone who is a descendant in, or researching or has info on Black (surnames) families who lived in Ontario in these places or any areas close to these:

Dorchester/North Dorchester in Middlesex County

Nassagaweya, Nelson, Trafalgar, Esquesing I think are all in Halton County

Puslinch in Wellington South

I am trying to piece together the family of a woman who was a widow who came to Ontario about 1825 possibly with all ELEVEN of her children, all of whom were most likely born in New Brunswick, in and around Saint John, between 1806 and 1824.

I suspect there is at LEAST one set of twins in this family, and that is one of the clues I am relying on to find families connected to this particular Black family: the occurence of twins.

The mother's name was Mary McCarty, or McCarter, possibly McCartney but I think McCarty, could even be McClarty. HER parents were Isaiah McCarty (or any of the above similar surnames) and Abigail LAND. I am not sure on this without looking it up again but think Abigails' parents were Robert Land and Phoebe Scott. They are a LOYALIST family. I believe that when Mary came to Ontario with her family, she came to be with family members who could help her with all those kids...either HER family, or her deceased husband's family, or both.

Mary's deceased husband was Dr. Daniel Black born in Paisley, (Renfrewshire?) Scotland between 1770-1775, died June 1824. His parents were Duncan Black and Margaret or Mary McDougall.

KNOWN children so far for Dr. Dan and Mary:

Son Dr. Daniel Black Junior born abt 1810 or 1811, married to Orpha Smith daughter of Joseph Smith (Joseph born August 1781 in New Jersey, USA), died August 1832 at Trafalgar, Ontario of cholera, as did Dr. Daniel Junior four days prior to his father-in-law.

Dr. Dan's widow Orpha re-married in 1833 to Daniel's brother Alexander Black born March 1810 in NB; they moved to Rockford, Winnebago County, Illinois and had at least seven children, I believe all girls except one son named Alexander McDougall Black. Alexander Senior had been previously married in Ontario and had a child, but both wife and child died, most likely from cholera as well.

There was another unidentified brother born prior to 1815, (1806-1815) died in August 1815 in Gagetown, NB, and is buried there.

A sister Elizabeth or Eliza born in 1822 married Hiram Fifield in Ontario and had a large family. Hiram and Eliza both died in Dorchester, Middlesex County, Ontario.

The widowed mother apparently spent some time in Ontario with a George Calvert and family. I am not sure if Mary married George Calvert; if she did, the marriage apparently did not last. There are Calvert's in Halton County, Ontario.

The MOORE family in these parts of Ontario is connected to same Black family. There was a David Moore who lived in the "Scotch Block" at Esquesing, Halton County. David was born in Connecticut, USA but had Scottish ancestry. His wife was Joanna SILVERTHORN. One of their daughters was Janet Moore who married George Black, both of Esquesing in Halton County. George was a son of HUGH BLACK and MARY ANN BARNES. I SUSPECT that Hugh might be a son of Dr. Daniel's...if not, he is related somehow. Hugh and Mary Ann also had a daughter Josephine who married a Robert Young in 1859 in Halton County. Hugh and Mary Ann also had twin daughters Helen Amanda Moore and Marion or Mary Ann Augusta Moore born March 13, 1845 at Esquesing. Marion or Mary Ann married a Henry BUSH from the USA on Oct. 8, 1874 at Esquesing.

Would appreciate any info for this family. I am working on several Black families at once, trying to sort out who belongs to whom in these areas in Ontario. I have Black's from England, who are related to Black's from paisley, Scotland; Argyleshire Black's and Ayrshire Black's. And I need help!

My goal is to find the family of origin for one of my daughters' 3X great grandmothers...Rhoda Rebecca Black born 1824 in Saint John, New Brunswick, married John McLean born 1815 in Perthshire, Scotland; they were married 1844 at Duff's Church in Puslinch, Wellington County; lived in Puslinch and in Nassagaweya until 1862 when they headed west for Portage la Prairie, Manitoba with their seven (living) children and John's mother, Grace Douglass McLean.

As well, if anyone knows of any Black families or individuals who ended up in Manitoba but whose origins were in NB and then Ontario, please also let me know.

Thanks from Nora in Alberta
