I am wondering if my Catherine McDougall is a sister to your Isabella. In fact, my ancestors were slate quarriers, as well. Additionally, my G-Grandfather was Coll Campbell(ref: your Rachel McColl), son of Catherine McDougall Campbell. However, what strikes me as peculiar is the neice Catherine and the move to Govan. My G-grandfather, Coll was married to Elizabeth Douglass in 1857, in Millhugh of Larkhall.I have seen in records that a young cousin, named Catherine, turned up in 1861 census records, living with the family back in Easdale. She was listed as 24 years of age.My McDougall-Campbells have possible links to the surnames, McKay(John) and Wilson(Alexander and James).
I shall look through the few photos I've taken of tombstones in the Kilbrandon area.Perhaps your Isabella will turn up there.
All the best,
Karen
