Recent Y-DNA testing of a male descendant of Chapman McDoniel/McDaniel proves a close family relationship between my 4th great grandfather Benjamin McDaniel/McDonald born in Louisa County VA between 1770 and 1775 and Chapman McDoniel/McDaniel born Louisa County VA 1784 according to census records.
There are documents connecting Benjamin to John McDaniel/McDonald born abt. 1740 in Hanover County. Chapman is a perfect fit with one of the sons of John as listed in the 1800 census for Louisa County. Chapman and Benjamin are most likely brothers (or at least close cousins). There is also a connection between William McDonald of Louisa County and Benjamin and John. Whatever the relationships; Benjamin, Chapman, William and John are most likely related. Benjamin and Chapman are related without a doubt.
Chapman and Benjamin are Haplogroup I2a2b Isles by FTDNA nomenclature and I2a1b2 at ISOGG http://www.isogg.org/tree/ISOGG_HapgrpI.html . They have common ancestry with the Chiefs of Clan Munro. These isles clades have ancient roots in pre Celtic Ireland.
It has been my belief that Benjamin is the son of John McDaniel whose father was also a John McDaniel, an indentures servant. He may possibly be the John McDonell who came to Virginia from Liverpool in 1699. He was 19 and had a contract of indenture of 6 years.
This has not been proven.
I hope we can compare notes and see this family all fits together. I would be interested in any documentation you have on Malcolm McDoniel and Chapman McDoniel/McDaniel.
