John V. Duncanson's Rawdon and Douglas Two Loyalist Townships in Nova Scotia West Hants Historical society reprint 2002 Book-359
"The Craig index of the 2nd Battalion 84th Regt lists a private patrick McDonald as a former member of the battalion but not on strength when the battalion was disbanded at Windor NS in Oct. 1783. pg. 39.
The Commissioners report of 1800 lists 500 acres (lot 8D) on the Kennetcook River which were held under a grant by Gen. Small. The commissioners recommended Bruce and John McDonald for an additional 500 acres on the north side and adjacent to the lot stating that their father was "an old officer in the Navy and had a promise of a grant. The property had been occupied since 1785. The family of Bruce and John McDonald consisted of a total of nine persons. There was a house and barn on the property and 10 acres had been cleared.
The Douglas Township Book records the family of Patrick McDonald, born 17 Mar. 1728 N. Dist. Shire of Inverness, Scotland; died 20 Jan 1802 as 74 and buried in the Douglas NS church yard married 1 June 1762 in Ireland to Elizabeth McLean born 7 april 1748 in County Down Ireland; she died 3 Nov. 1796. Patrick McDonald's will was proved at Windsor NS on 26 Nov. 1801 which suggest that the date of death shown in Douglas Township book may be in error.
