Seeking information on the family of Alton "Alta" McDonald of Albany (Menands) N.Y. McDonald ran a large hotel on the MacAdam Road (now called Broadway)in the early 20th century. "Alta" McDonald was a well respected trotting horse trainer and driver of the late 19th and early 20th centuries winning many races at the Island Park Racing facility located on an island in the Hudson River above Albany, N.Y. McDonald was born in Hartford, Washington Co. N.Y. in 1854 and died at Menands, N.Y. on July 11, 1911. McDonald is buried in Albany Rural Cemetery. Among his fast trotting horses were: Major Delmar, Dariel, Connor, and Sweet Marie. McDonald participated in what was known as the "Grand Circut" or horse racing and was recognized for driving "Prince Albert" at a one mile track in Syracuse, N.Y. at a time of 1:59 1/4 seconds.
