"Sween" McDonalds from Inverness
I have as an ancestor John Sween (Sweyn, Swein) McDonald born abt. 1797 near Inverness and married to Margaret Clark in 1826 (the family farmed as subtenants up Strathnairn ending on the Mains of Faillie). The "Sween" name was passed on 'til the generation before me so it seemed to be of significance though no one knows why, now. Our part of the family left for Canada (Ontario -> BC) in 1831 and there does not appear to be any connection left to Scotland. I have always wondered about the Sween name as it is so distainctive as far as McDonalds are concerned and appears only in Inverness as far as I can tell. The other names in my family were David, Margaret, Ann, Duncan, Alexander, Isabella and Jessie.
