T/Sgt. Eugene T. McDonald, WWII
During World War II, a B-24D departed Port Moresby, New Guinea on Feb. 7, 1943 in bad weather.It crashed into a mountain 7 miles from the base and all aboard were killed in action.
Crew was 1st Lt. James J. Crawford (pilot), 2nd Lt. James D. Murless, 2nd Lt. Howard F. Schertzer, T/Sgt. Francis J. Donovan, T/Sgt. Eugene T. McDonald, S/Sgt. Yerger A. Smith, Sgt. George E. Duigan, Cpl. Jesse J. Haynie, Pfc. Steve F. Konik, and Pvt. James W.Cooley.Also aboard the aircraft was Lt. Col. W.A. Turner of the Australian army.The regular co-pilot was Lt. Walter K. Kelly but he was grounded at the time due to illness.
