Margaret McDill Peden 1715-1788

Margaret McDill married John Peden in Ireland sometime in the mid 1730's in County Antrim Ireland. They migrated to South Carolina in 1772 with their 10 children and a number of grandchildren. John Peden and Margaret McDill are buried in the Strong-Moffat-McDill Cemetery in Chester Co., SC. "The Pedens of America" was written in 1900 with an updated edition in 1961 and covers this family.

We are in the process of writing a new book on John Peden and Margaret McDill and are seeking information on our McDill ancestry. I have seen some information from "McDills in America" published in 1940 by Robert McDill Woods and Iva Godfrey Woods that lists the parents of Margaret McDill as well as her brother Thomas and his children.

I hope someone can assist with the following questions:

1. What evidence is there that John McDill and Janet Leslie were the parents of Margaret and Thomas McDill?
2. Were there other brothers and sisters? Nathaniel McDill came to SC in 1772 at the same time as Margaret McDill Peden and Thomas McDill but on a different ship. Was he a brother?
3. There was a migration of Reformed Presbyterians from Chester Co., SC to Il, IN, and OH because of slavery issues. Some McDills, Pedens and other related families left. Any information on this migration would be greatly appreciated.
