Barbara,
Last night I contacted you concerning your referense to Winchester, MA. "McDaid's,"and you've been awaiting my response. I am assisting my Aunt with her research, as she is the Helen N. McDevitt of whom you have listed on this message. She is the daughter of Jeremiah William & Johanna Ester (FROTTON) McDevitt. After Johanna died in 1978, Jeremiah m: 2nd Florence SILVA. Jeremiah and both his wives are buried (together) in Sandown, NH. Of the children listed, there is only one Daniel, the last one is Paul David McDevitt. (We are dealing with the living in most instances here, so we're limited by privacy issues.)
Jeremia William McDevitt, b:17 Oct. 1907 is/was the son of your William McDade/McDaid and Rose "Mullier" Doherty. From what I am told, The natives in Ireland say the spelling of McDade/McDaid is religious in reference IE.. Which side you supported during the turmoil? However, in casesof Immigration you're at the mercy of language barriers and of course, the transcriber.I hope you may see a connection here.Helen goes to Ireland every couple years for research and family adventures.Let us know if you'd like to share notes.
Take Care, David
