ROCKFORD -- Olive Kay McDevitt, 79, of Rockford died at 11:20 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, 2004, in OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center after a lengthy illness. Born Dec. 12, 1924, in Rockford, the daughter of Milton A. and Mary M. (McMahon) Nelson. Olive married William J. McDevitt in Rockford March 3, 1945. She was a secretary for Tan Books & Publishers from 1970 to 1980. Most of her time was spent raising her eight children. She was a member of Regina Caeli Priory Church. Survivors include husband, William; children, Mary M. (Gary) Johnson, John W. McDevitt, Robert J. (Marlene) McDevitt, William J. (Maureen) McDevitt, Michael M. McDevitt, Patricia A. Thingvold, Kathleen M. Letheby and Daniel P. McDevitt; 23 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Barbara Anderson and Mary Jane Havens; and brothers, Robert Nelson and Thomas Nelson. Predeceased by daughter-in-law, Laurie McDevitt.
Service will be at noon Wednesday, Aug. 25, in Fitzgerald Funeral Home & Crematory, Mulford Chapel, 1860 S. Mulford Road, with the Rev. Frank Slupski officiating. Burial in Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to service time Wednesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the McDevitt family.
