My name was Barbara Ann McDaniel and I was born in Lynchburg, VA, on February 22, 1962. My birth mother was 16 years old and spent most of her pregnancy at the Florence Critterton Home for Unwed Mothers in Lynchburg. My birth mother was unmarried and sixteen years old when she gave me up for adoption. If still living, she would now be 63 years old.
What was my birth mother's given name? Where did she live? Her mother, age 43, worked in a silk mill and her father, age 45, was a foreman in a steel mill - they had seven children; the oldest son, age 21, also worked in a steel mill. What was their given name and where did they live? - what state, if not Virginia? I know there were a lot of steel mills in Pennsylvania but why would the parents send their daughter hundreds of miles from home to have the baby?
