George:
We've always been told that our string of McDaniels came in through NC.About 22 years ago, when I was young and stupid, I met some McDaniels in the Wilmington/Whiteville are of NC that were probably related -- the resemblance in facial features and size/build were amazing.Unfortunately, I didn't get contact information and lost that contact. We can only trace back to the 1860's and that's in Talladega Alabama, on the GA state line area. My great Grandpa was born in 1881 (Joshau Austin McDaniel) and his father and mother were Jim and Nancy(Gray)McDaniel. We have been trying to find something on Jim and Nancy - i keep stumbling across distant cousins (gr gr grandchilren of Jim's as well) looking for the same information. This would give us the next link to the time before Jim came to Alabama -- we assume he came in through GA - and his father was likely William, as that was the name of his first son -- but we don't know that for certain.
We have a McDaniel family reunion on October 6 at Tannehill State Park just south of Birmingham, AL.All are invited.
