Looking through my notes, I found this letter written by Matthue McCurry. Sadly, I did not note the source, but I suspect it came from a posting on this website. You may be able to find it if you search throught the site. In any case, it may send you in the right direction. Sorry that I can't document the origin.

Here is the letter that I referred to in a previous query. The spelling is original. (Matthue (name always spelled this way) was elderly and apparently spelling was not his best subject.
February 28, 1875
Dear Sister and Family:
After an absenes of 25 years I take this oportunity at righting to you. I got a letter from Jamima the 23 gave me your adress and I now hasten to right to inform you that sum of urse are yet on the land of the living and tollerable helth except bad colds and hope when theise reatch you the will find you in beter helth than I understand you have had for a long time. I was truley glad to heare from you that you was still a live as I had heard to the contrarey. Several of my familey have gon the way of all the earth and you and I from the course of nature will soon gow too and I hope we may ........to meete in that beter land wheire theire is no sickness serous pains nor deathes and whare peopell never get helpless and friends never part nor grow old and never get tieerd but be abell to shoute and sing and prais the Lamb for ever more.
Now I will tell you aboute my family. Olliver died in the union army in 1862, John went throug the ware maried lives in the South part of this state. Henrieta married in 1861 a man with 6 children he died maried again in 1872 has moved to S.E. Kansas. Frances the baby when we left Tennessee died seven years a gow this winter leving a bright testimoney that she had a hom in heven. Elizabeth was maried had 6 children 3 living 3 dead. She was taken sick the 14 and died the 16. Was inconcus in a fiew hours after taken till she died. Frank maried Rileey Brouns daughter the have 3 children. Emaline is not married and lives at home. theise are all that you no. We have 2 others at home Marion C 22 years old Sarah Jane 12 years old and the Baby. Brother Willim is living in this county is dooing well. I sawe him yestereday the are well. James is living at Albany the county Seete. I saw them yesterday they are well. theire children are all maried but he still workes at his trade. Likey sold out last fall moeved to Iowa his wife has been ded several years he has 4 children one of them maried. Brother John move to the South part of this State after the ware he was a strong rebell. I heare he is dooing no good Jamima is in texas. She gave me your adress times...hard...last 2 years. This has been the coldest winter I ever saw or the most continest cold. not less than 30 snows this winter. the ground has been covered since the 23 of December tho not more then 6 inches snow at one time. theire has been a grate deall of sickness the last yeare mines getis tifoid and hooping cough. Jane and I thinke of taking a trip neext sumer doun throug South Western kansas where the winters are not so long and cold Henrieta lives in South East Kansas Labet County.
I will give you Fathers Familey Record it may interest youe. Now Peggy I would like the best in the world to see youe tho we are a long ways apart we can take throug the male at litell expence and as soon as this comes to hand I want you to right to mee and let me no houe youe are geting and youre Familey. Matthue and Jane McCurry to Margaret A. Foster and Familey.
