Greetings Paul,
I'm doing a book on the Nilgiri Hills and McCurdy made the first drawings there that were published as lithographs by Madras Govt. Press in 1831 - reissued by Frazer of Calcutta in 1851.What I have since discovered - he was the son of William Douglas McCurdy and Elizabeth Cuppage, born 28 September 1799 at Fermanagh Londonderry. He married Elizabeth Flora Hamilton Hall at Portman Square London in 1827.They had 6 children in India. He died 28 December 1842 at Russell Condah and is buried at St. Mary's Anglican Cemetery - Fort St. George, Madras (now Chennai). He has a church memorial plaque and gravestone and both are intact.Elizabeth died 1 April 1872 in Lewisham.Edward may have had a younger brother William, who also served in the 27th Madras Native Infantry and who died in 1819 age 16.Contact me off-line and I will send you photographs of 4 of McCurdy's lithographs and his memorial plaque.
Best Wishes,
John
