Lavina McCurdy Monroe b 1852 NY
Lavina McCurdy was born in NY in 1851. Her sister Lucina McCurdy was also born in NY in 1843.Lucina is my great,great grandmother.They were two of the daughters of Robert and Betsy Briggs McCurdy.Lucina married my great,great grandfather, Charles A. Jones, a Civil War Veteran and survivor of Andersonville Prison.They were married in Aug. of 1865.They had 3 children Olive L. b: 1871; Elmer b: 1875; and Orville b: 1887.Olive married my great-grandfather George Bartoo.
Charles was a farmer, and he and Lucina lived on the Jones family's farm in Harrison township, Potter Co., Penn.Lucina died in 1915, and Charles died in 1924. They are buried in the Mills,Pa. cemetery.From the stories my great-grandmother Olive told my mother, Lucina had red hair.She was the oldest of the 6 children born to Robert and Betsy Briggs McCurdy.Lovina was their 4th child. You might also like to know that in Shongo there is a road named McCurdy Road after Robert and Betsy and their family.Robert was a sheep farmer, and he built a house there for his family.
