I have been going through some of the family memorabilia I saved when my mother-in-law and father-in-law were getting ready to move into a retirement apartment. Included is a silk ribbon with the following inscription: Union Republican Club, Philadelphia Obsequies John McCullough, August 30th, 1888. I checked Webster's dictionary, and found out that "obsequies" means funeral. The problem is I don't know of any connection on my husband's side of the family with any McCullough, nor even any connection with anyone living in Philadelphia at any time. Seven of my husband's eight great-grandparents were born in Europe, and when they immigrated to this country they came directly to Chicago, not pausing even briefly anywhere on the east coast. I appreciate any help anyone can give me on solving this mystery. Notify Administrator about this message?
