Greetings McCulloch Forum: I have a great Uncle by marriage named Charles A. McCulloch who married Grandfather's sister Ruth Nell (nee Gaw) McCulloch of Salisbury, Chariton County, Missouri. I want to find more information about Charles A McCulloch? who is parents were, any siblings and other famous McCulloch living relatives that could be related? My Great Aunt Ruth Nell was a social butterfly and married 2 men for social status. Her first husband--Warren S. McKinney-- I have very little information about him other than they had a daughter who died at 18 years of age and buried in Kansas City, MO. Charles A McCulloch was married once before to someone listed on the 1900 Cooke County IL Census as Nora ? He listed his birth month as December 1875 and a native of Illinois. By 1910 he is married to my grandfather's younger sister and eventually traveled Europe and Egypt as post cards were sent to various family members dated 1926 - 1930. What happened to his wife Nora and what was her name? I received new information that he was very wealthy and engaged in various Chicago civic functions from the turn of the century until is death in the mid 1940's. The Chicago Tribune Obituary of January 1946 listed his interests from horse racing to public utilities. His Chicago address was 179 Lake Shore Drive and he had another home at LaGorce Island, Miami Beach, Florida. He started his work career as circulation manager of the Chicago Evening Post and rose up the ladder while buying and selling other companies. He became Chairman of the Yellow Cab Company with John Hertz and later they formed the Chicago Motor Coach Company in 1922. He "dethroned Samuel Insull of the Middle West Utilities" empire and in recognition was appointed receiver of the company. (Who was Sam Insull in Chicago City History?) He held directorships with the Commonwealth Edison Company, First National Bank, Chicago Natural History Museum and was chairman of Arlington Park race track. All of these businesses, he resigned within his last year for poor health. Upon his wife's death in 1953, she bequeathed a very large sum of money to Northwestern University for a dormitory to be named after her husband. McCulloch Hall, 2315 Sheridan Drive, Northwestern University opened in 1955 and was named for Charles A. McCulloch! Was he a NU Faculty Professor? I know when and where he died but would like to know who his parents were? Does he have any other living nephews, nieces and cousins? Who are his grandparents and where were they from? When did they marry? If anybody has any answers or offer any new leads, please contact me. His marriage to my Great Aunt is a big puzzle? Thank you in advance for any information. Jean grand niece to Mrs. Charles A McCulloch 1883-1953 Notify Administrator about this message?
