My grandmother was Elizabeth McHugh/McKew/McCue not sure of spelling. The only information I have on her is from her marriage certificate of 4 December 1893it states that she is 20, so she was born in approximately 1873 and that her father's name was William that he was deceased and that his occupation was a Timekeeper. My grandmother married in Liverpool England, she married my grandfather James Saunders an Irish man. The only other information I have on Elizabeth is that on the 1901 Census for the UK it states that she was an American, Elizabeth is not on the 1891 Census so I presume she had not yet arrived in the UK. My mother, her sixth child, said Elizabeth was born in Boston, but my mother was only very young when Elizabeth died in 1920 in Liverpool. Elizabeth I think could not read or write as on her children's notification of birth and on her marriage certificate she signs her name with a cross. Also I think because she could not read the name of McHugh is spelled with the various spellings when it gives her single name. Can anyone help me. Has anyone lost an Elizabeth with a father called William. I have been making postings on the McHugh Forum but I have had no help at all. I have absolutely no idea why Elizabeth came to live in the UK at such a young age as far as I know by herself. My grandfather's family had lived in Liverpool since before the 1881 Census as I have found them there.
