I have recently been given some information about my ancestors from my father and wish to share. My grandfather John McHugh (born 11 August 1896) was the youngest of many children. These included Katherine/Catherine (born c. 1876) who emigrated to Canada and married a Mr Keys/Keyes. Arthur (born c. 1878), a blacksmith. James (1884-1916). Pat/Patrick (born c.1888) married Ellen Thomas, moved to Detroit Michigan and had 4 sons, Arthur, Gerard, Ernest and Jim (one or more of whom fought in WW2). Elizabeth (no children). There were several other siblings - my grandfather was the third child to be named John because the previous 2 Johns had died as young children. My grandfather's parents were named Arthur McHugh (born c.1850) and Mary Sheridan (born c.1851). Although my grandfather was born a Scot, the family having emigrated from Ireland some time earlier, he did in his youth become involved in the struggle for Irish independence during the 1920s. After this followed a period living in New York, where 2 of his children were born. I hope this information is helpful to someone. It would be interesting to discover descendents of my grandfathers siblings. Sarah Mchugh Notify Administrator about this message?
