A board message written by Eddie Brooks, states that Cynthia Moreland, w/o Joseph Moreland, 1850 Murray Co. Ga., is the daughter of Daniel F. Mooney. If this is so, then I have the connection that several of us have been looking for. Eddie is getting back with me about his findings. But the way he talks, I am sure this is what I have been looking for.
Eddie lists Cynthia as Cynthia Wilson, daughter of Daniel F. Mooney.
Years ago I had been able to track Arkie all the way back to her childhood, living with the Mooney's, but had not been able to connect her relationship with them until now.
We, my sister and I, have finally linked together our McCues/McHughs to the Mooney's in one way, presuming that the information of Daniel F. Mooney being Cynthia's father is correct. I have no reason to dought this, but can not find any records to prove it. I am hoping Eddie are someone can help with this matter. Where does the 'Wilson' name come in with Cynthia?. Is it her middle name? It too, is a common middle name for our McCues/McHughs.
And the 'Citizenship Application for Mary A. Moreland Logan?(d/o Cynthia and Joseph Moreland) Hope someone can inlighten me on its contents, please? I am not where I can get that info at this time. I sure would appreciate it.
Our connection to the Mooneys is through our gggrandfather, George Wilson M. McCue/McHugh. There seems to be a double connection through him, but only one are we able to figure out at this time:
Cynthia Mooney Moreland died before 1860 census Murray Co. Georgia. We beleive that she died in child birth of her last child, Virginia Arkie Moreland. It is said that Arkie's grandparents, the Mooneys, raised her after her mother's death.
(Daniel F. Mooney and his wife & Benjamin C. Mooney and his wife, Catherine live in same household next to Joseph and Cynthia Moreland - 1850 Murray Co. Census. Benjamin is Benjamin Colquit Mooney, Daniel's son.)
Daniel F. Mooney is found in the Ala. Land Records, buying 320.5 acres of land, April 2, 1857 in St.Clair County.
Daniel F. and Colquit Mooney are both found on the 1860 St. Clair Co., Al. census. In Colquit's household is listed his wife, Catherine and a female child, Cynthia Moreland, age 1 year. I figure that since the child was so young, they temporarily gave her her mother's name. In the same county, the 1870 census lists this child as "U. V.", with no last name, assuming she takes the Mooney last name, age 10. I figure that the census taker heard the name 'Urkie' instead of 'Arkie' and wrote it down with a U initial. This child would be Arkie Virginia Moreland.
Arkie marries Calvin Ash, 1874, in St. Clair Co. Al. I have found their marriage listing, but yet to find his death or any divorce papers.
By 1880 Colquit is in Bartow Co. Ga., Pine Log Household #106, listed as Walter C. Mooney. (They had so many middle names.) Same page, household #107, Arkie is listed with James McCue, brother to my gggrandfather, George Wilson M. McCue. George is also in this household. Arkie is listed as Arky Ash, servant, age 21, divorce or widowed. Arkie and George marry that same year, Aug. 22, 1880 - Pickens County, Georgia lost marriages. This was George's 2nd marriage as well.
George married my gggrandmother, Talitha Morgan, June 24, 1858 in St. Clair County Al. Colquit Mooney, of all people, signed his marriage as George's gardian. (George was under 21) I figure that George went with them when Daniel F. and Colquit went from Georgia to Alabama. So, this is my second McCue/Mooney connection I have to figure out. The McCues/McHughs and the Mooneys go back way farther than Arkie's time. George's father's name is Daniel Wilson McHugh. Daniel McHugh marries Elizabeth Cox, Forsyth Co. Ga. in 1838. Daniel Mooney is listed on the 1834 Forsyth County, Georgia Census. So, they go way back, along with the names Daniel and Wilson.
If one was to notice, George and Arkie didn't use any Mooney or McCue first names, because George had used most of them with his children of his first marriage.
I received Arkie's funeral report and George's Death cert.from Mack Helms. Thank you Mack. The funeral report states Arkie's father as Colquitt Mooney, mother unknown. Her birth date is listed as Dec. 1,1869, which we know to be 10 years too late. We have to remember that the information on these kind of reports are only as good as the supplier of the information knows at that time. Colquit Mooney did raise Arkie, therefore, I am sure he was considered her father. The early census' of Arkie's clearly shows that she was born in 1859. Maybe she just wanted to be 10 years younger. Don't we all.
On George McCue's death cert. it states he was 103 yrs., 11 mo. old., born in 1824. Death date is Jan. 26, 1928. George's parents didn't marry til 1838. George was born 1839. The census with him and his parents, 1850 Forsyth co., Ga. shows him as 10 years old. The 1860 Floyd Co. Ga. census lists him as 17. I believe this age to be a few years off. As goes down from my side of the McCue family, George appears to have been somewhat of a story teller of his life. It appears that it continued into his older age. George too, was a bit of a character, leaving two wives with a house full of children and then dying by himself in a Chattooga Co. Ga. County Farm.
I have a good bit of info on George's parents and family, his Alabama family, his census', Arkie's census', Arkie and George's marriages, and some on Arkie's children. I have not done a lot of research as of yet on the children of George and Arkie, but do have their names and some info. And I have some info on Daniel F. Mooney and his family. If any one needs some info I might have, I am happy to help. Please let me know.
