Well........I have been at this for several years and it has always been confusing. Now I am even more confused than ever. Does anyone out there know with certainty (and documentation) just which "Howard" John McCubbin married ?Or even that he married a Howard at all ?
Also I know that it is assumed that John McCubbin arrived in Maryland appx. 1656/57. However I have two documents which seem to disprove that time. Doc.1: Land Patent to Ellis Browne who claims 300 acres for transporting John McCubbin and Edward Stone to Maryland in 1649. I have a copy of a Maryland Historical Society bulletin written by Rudolf Loeser stating the same. This would lead one to assume that John was an indentured servant wouldn't it ?
Doc. 2: Land Patent to Edward Skidmore 20 Sept.1658. The metes and bounds legal descriptin give McCubbins Cove as one of the boundaries. John McCubbin patented what we all have assumed as his 1st - Timberneck, 28 Sept. 1658. But what of McCubbins Cove ? It would appear that it was already recognized prior to this date.
I plan a trip to Maryland this spring and plan to spend as many days as it takes in Annapolis to document as much as I can. In the meantime if anyone can shed more light, please do.
