emigrated to America in 1775, at the age of 17, with his family from Antrium County, Larga Ireland.He was one of six children of
Thomas McCrory and Hannah Crawford... Less than a year after their arrival, James enlisted in the Ninth Regiment of the North
Carolina line under the command of Gen. Washington at headquarters in Middlebrook, NJ.McCrory fought with Gen. Washington at the battles of Brandywine and Germantown.Then came ... Valley Forge where he served as
life guard (bodyguard).... He was soon able to avenge his captors by capturing a British
officer Col. Bryant in 1782... He married Jean Gilmore and moved to Davidson County, TN.The James McCrory family moved from TN to Washington County, AL and then to Pickens
County, AL where he died on Nov. 24, 1840.
