Hi Margaret, What a coincidence that your fatherinlaw was born in Girvan.Every year we went to Girvan for our holidays but it was not until I was older that my father told us that his people came from Port William that is where he remembered going as a small boy to see his grandmother. However I found out later that it was Elrig Village that they came from. When we were back in Scotland a few years ago I went to visit Elrig and I do not think it has changed much in the last 100 years.I am sure that somewhere way back our families may have been related.I had an aunt who told us that the McCredies came from Greenland away back in about the tenth century and they came down in two boats and one boat landed in Wigtownshire and the other landed in Ireland.Whether or not this is true I do not know but she said she read it in a book somewhere.Although we spell our name McCredie sometimes it was McCreadie or McCready. The McCredies that we are related to married into the McKie family, the McDowall family and the McColm family. In fact for years I always thought that my great grandmothers name was Malcolm as that is the way it was spelled in the family bible but my brother discovered that it is actually McColm.By the way I have a sister Margaret McCredie.
