Hello, I did look through some of my notes trying to locate
and verify any information on Susan McCready. There is
so much conflicting information so I cannot "prove" this
but it seems from what I can find that the "story" your
family passed down to you may be true. To find out
more definitely, you might check out the following "leads"?
Susan MIGHT have been a half-sister to Edward and the
McCready Hospital was his "legacy". Edward's father,
George Stephen McCready (brother to my ancestor Benjamin)
(nicknamed "Capt. Stephen" by Crisfielders) was married
three times. The first wife, Lovey/Love Ward had
Edward and Robert. His second wife Sidonia had John
and Ira (who contested Riley McCready's Will) and
then the third wife was Susie. The copy I have of
an article called "Portrait and Biographical Record"
says that Susie was the sister of Dr. Atkinson of
Crisfield. And that is where my "trail" ends as of
this brief investigation. You might begin your
search from there because it is quite possible that
"Susie" might well have had children or a child and
named her Susan. Good luck in your search. And
please keep me posted. If I can find anything more
definitive then that I will let you know. I do know
that some of our direct McCready's did move to
Baltimore. Perhaps they became a "safe-haven" for
relatives which wanted to leave the area, I do not know.
Also, I can share with you other data about George
Stephen from this article I mentioned earlier that
is quite interesting if you would like that. I don't
know who wrote this report from the Portrait And
Biographical Record, nor do I know how to find it in
its entirety. If another lister does know, I would
love to have that resource, too. This was on page 713
but that's all I have. It's like a "big tease" ...
not having the "rest of the story", isn't it?
Fascinating though.
