Dear Doug,

Sorry for the delay in answering your message. I also see there is one from Penny which I will answer as well. I must say it has been quite a spectactular topic in our family as of late, being in contact with you! I will try my best to answer your questions.

It is an interesting story about Susannah Little in County Down, isn't it? I wonder who's daughter she was. She was alive during WWII although quite old. I asked my father if he knew of any dry goods store in the family, either in Belfast or County Down. He did not. He said that unfortunately did not have the pleasure or memory of meeting members of the Lunney side of the family. He remembers that the linens were supplied by somebody to Susannah in the way that a cottage industry is run, and the linens were already pre-cut. Then she did the fancy hemwork. (He also mentions that she had about only one book in her home, Pilgrim's Progress, a famous book in its day. She was a small woman and a low talker. His mom and dad and brother were also there for a time, then went away, his dad first then his brother. His sister Nora never came, she was in Lurgan in County Armagh.)

I have been remiss in putting in the fact that my father Hugh has a middle name and it is in fact Lunney, as is his brother James! I am so sorry, this has been my first genealogy posting of any kind. He also has said that he believes his father Hugh, son of Emily and David, also had the middle name of Lunney, and suggests a possibility that other siblings could have had that middle name. I noticed that the 1911 census record did not list any middle names; that may just have been how the census worked at the time.

I asked both my parents about a Little family connection. While they did not know where the connection originated, they actually found out quite a few years ago that their next door neighbors at 348 Ballysillan Road were Littles and were related to them! Their names were Ross and Gertrude "Gertie" Little. (My mom says Gertie was her very best friend.) Ross was a policeman in the Royal Ulster Constabulary; his brother-in-law, a man by the name of Cluny was the head of police in Northern Ireland in the 1960s. My parents said that these Littles used to travel to North America to meet family. They were unsure whether they traveled to US or to Canada. They did say Boston 'rang a distant bell,' but could not say for sure if that was where they were traveling to see family. Ross Little is connected to our family in another way: his brother married Harry Bennett's sister, Harry Bennett was my aunt Nora's husband. I liked reading Stephen Little's message about the Lunney connection. That could be our Lunney-Little connection. Does Stephen have a Ross Little anywhere on the family tree?

I asked my dad if he knew of any Henderson or Maultsaid connections but unfortunately he does not have this information. If I should ever come across anything I will post it.

Thank you so much for your reply and for your personal e-mail address. I hope to use it at a future time. I have two small children who keep my busy all the time, and who think the computer is theirs, and I don't get much time to correspond! Thanks for being patient!

Best wishes,
Michelle Lennox
