Hi, I just about fell out of my chair when I read your unexpected posting. I am happy to provide information about the David McCrea m. Emily Lunney family. My dad is Hugh McCrea, the son of Hugh, the son aged 13 yrs in the 1911 census. Our part of the family emigrated to the US in 1967-68 from Belfast, N. Ireland. Our information about the McCrea-Lunney family is as follows: There is an additional address for the McCrea-Lunney parents. 30 Keswick Street, off the Crumlin Road. This was the address from about the 1930s on, according to my father, Hugh. He never knew his grandfather, David, but was told he was a barber who came over from England; until your posting of his birthplace in Belfast, we did not know if he had been born in England. My father's granny, Emily, resided at this address. She passed on in her 60s when my father was about 14 years old. Hugh and Emily's son, David, was not known as 'David;' he was called Lory or Laurie though my father is unsure of the spelling. He emigrated to Australia with his wife and children after the war. All the members of the family were musicians, all were trained in instruments. Maisy was an accomplished pianist. In fact, she played in the Opera House in Belfast for the Queen (the Queen Mother as we know her.) What we know of Freddy is that he had a son named Tommy who lived in England. He only passed away about a month ago. He kept a record of the McCrea family tree and would often put together reunions. Hugh's (my father) sister, Nora, attended these reunions. Anna was known as Aunt Pat or Patricia. She also played piano and lived in Belfast on the other side of the city from where my father lived. Norah, the 1 month old in the 1911 census, went on to live in Liverpool. My grandfather, Hugh McCrea, the son of David McCrea, married Mary Wilson. They resided in Belfast all their lives. Hugh was musically trained and was known to have played saxophone in orchestras and bands. The economy was not good in Belfast and so he provided for his family as a driller at the shipyard. He died in July of 1953. Mary passed away in the 1980s at the age of 84. Together, Hugh and Mary had four children: Nora, b. 1922, married Harry Bennett (deceased), resides in the Belfast area with her family. John, b. 1926, deceased only a few years ago. Emigrated to Australia with his wife. Hugh, b. 1929, resides in US with his wife Anne (Atkinson) McCrea and his family. Pauline, b. 1932, emigrated to New Zealand, and resides there with her family. Hugh (my father) married Anne (Atkinson) McCrea, daughter of Andrew Atkinson and Sarah "Sally" Wilson (no known relation to Mary). Anne resided at 8 Olive Street, then later 28 Bracken Street, the home of her grandparents. Both resided in Belfast, their last address being 342 Ballysillan Road. In 1967-68 they emigrated to the US with their children. They have four children: Kenneth b. 1954 in Belfast. Married Bambi Kemp. They have two sons, Ryan and Kellen. Lorraine b. 1957 in Belfast. Married Stephen Reiter. They have three children: a daughter Brittany, and two sons Brennan and Colin. Sharon b. 1960 in Belfast. Married Stephen Edwards. They have three children: daughter Morgan, daughter MacKenzie and son Vaughan. Michelle b. 1971 in US. Married David Lennox. They have two children: a daughter Emerson and a son Luke. There is another relative of note on the Lunney side. During the evacuation of Belfast due to German bombing during WWII, my father Hugh, along with his sister Pauline, was sent to stay with Susanna Little in the south of Ireland in Dromara in the Finnis District in County Down. She was very old at the time. It is said she had no children and never married. She lived in an irish cottage with a thatched roof. For a living, she made and sold handkerchiefs, both plain and embroidered, all done by hand in the finest white linen. It is said she made them for the Queen and for others who could afford them. It would be interesting to know who she was and what relation she was to Emily. Our family mystery is what became of our mother's mother, Sally Wilson. She left her family in Belfast to live and work in England. She stayed in touch with her daughter and the Atkinsons for a while, but for many decades we have no information and are left wondering what became of her. Hope this is helpful! And thanks for your inquiry on this forum. It is a pleasure to provide this information to you. Best regards, Michelle Lennox Notify Administrator about this message?
