I have realized since i posted this query that the child Mary (Polly) Ann McCraw who married Issac S. Hill was the first child of Thomas Cooper McCraw and wife Sarah E. Perry...some have said that the first child was an Elizabeth J. McCraw, she did not exist, the first child was Mary Polly Ann McCraw named after her mother Sarah Elizabeth Perry McCraw's mother Polly Hall Perry who was probably a Mary Ann herself... The only Elizabeth J. McCraw was the last child, my ancestor, who is listed on the 1860 Tipton Co. TN census as Elizabeth J., age 10, born IN and i've corrected this in my files. My Elizabeth McCraw Lamkin's death cert. proves her name was actually Sarah E. McCraw and she was nicknamed Bettie...The oldest child Mary Polly Ann McCraw was born c1836 in Virginia before T.C. McCraw moved his family to Tenn. where they appear on the 1840 Tipton Co. TN census... The 1850 Wabash Co. IN census lists Thomas Cooper McCraw's children except for the last child being Jacob McCraw who was born c1852-53...I descend from the last child on that census being Elizabeth age 2/12, she was born Mar. 1850 in Wabash Co. IN. I am copying and pasting the info. below on Issac Hill and Mary (Polly) Ann McCraw, you will see that a Jacob McCraw is living with them on the 1880 Tipton Co. TN census as bro.'nlaw to Issac Hill...that is T.C. McCraw and Sarah E. Perry's last child born c1852-53 and I believe Sarah Perry McCraw died at his birth and is probably buried somewhere in Wabash Co. IN...many thanks, Kay Hill Woods of Tenn. 1870 Tipton Co. TN, Dist. 3, Portersville P.O. #23,23 Hill, I.S., 34, m, w, farmer, $150, AL " , Mary, 30, f, w, keeps house, TN 1880 Tipton Co. TN, 4th Civil Dist. #247,257 Hill, Isaac S., m, w, 45, marr., farmer, AL,AL,AL ' , Mary, w, f, 41, wife, keeping house, VA,VA,VA McCraw, Jacob, w, m, 26, bro.'nlaw, single, farmer, TN,VA,VA Hill, Jonathon, w, m, 23, hired man, farm laborer, TN,AL,VA Woods, Walter, w, m, 11, orphan, farm laborer, TN, not known (the above Jonathon Hill's parents were John & Eliza Hill on the 1870 Tipton Co. TN census, dist. 4....John Hill might have been an older brother to Isaac Hill for in 1870 John Hill is age 54 and son Jonathon is in his home) I believe there's a very good chance these Hill's trace back to an old Hill family tree in western Virginia (not W.VA) who, if memory serves me right, began there in the late 1600s or early 1700s from a William Hill.
