I believe that your grandfather may have been mine too. I only heard him referred to as Dan McCraw by my father. I belive he died March 25-27 in 1966 or 67. I remember attending his wake and funeral and that it was my brother's birthday on march the 27.
My father Carsie William McCraw was an older half brother to James, Clifford, William, and Elder. He called James James, Clifford Cliff, William Will, and referred to Elder as his baby sister.
Granpa Dan was living with uncle James in marion county,Columbia, Ms when he died.
My father had several whole brothers and sisters, Charlie, Arthur, Erma, Mamie,Ivy.
My father Carsie passed away in 1983. But my mother is still alive and might have more info about Grandpa Dan.
Last I heard either Will or Cliff was still alive and living in bassfield, Ms. I never knew either of them very well and often confuse them with each other.
If you feel we're talking about the same person give me a yell back and I might be able to provide a little more info.
