Hi Tim;
Thanks for the response. I have two different birthdates, neither confirmed:
November 19, 1835 Adams County, Ohio
1832, Butler County, Pennsylvania
His Civil War record indicates he was 28 years old at time of discharge in July 1865, which would mean his DOB was in 1837. (The same record says he was born in "Adams, Ohio.")
The last four censuses I have him listed in (1870-1910) are all consistent with the 1835 DOB, but place of birth is either Pennsylvania or Ohio.
He died October 1, 1928, at Letterman Hospital in San Francisco. Thanks for the tip on the death certificate; I'll follow up on that.
