My great grandfather was William Henry McCoy who settled in Placer County, California, after 1860. I have information on his descendants (m. Ellen Edeline in 1867), but cannot find anything about where he was born, who his parents were, and whether he had any siblings. No one in the family knows. I have unsubstantiated records that say he was either born in Adams County, Ohio, in 1835, or Butler County, Pennsylvania, in 1838. Census records from 1860-1900 say he was born in Pennsylvania, but oddly the 1910 census says Ohio. His parents may have been Alexander McCoy and Emma Glass. (One LDS records says his mother was Emma Edlise.) He may have also had a younger brother named Benjamin born c.1840.
Any help would be appreciated. I've exhausted most of the internet databases and would appreciate nudges in the right direction.
