My son Joseph Harvey McCoy III is descended from Joseph Harvey McCoy, Sr. who was born in what is now West Virginia. He and his twin brother Richard were born on December 5, 1849. During Reconstruction, Richard got into a fracas in a bar where someone was killed, so he and Joseph left. We know nothing between that time and when his first son was born.
We know that he married Mary Alice Scott who was born 19 Aug 1965 in Louisiana. They lived in the Oklahoma Territory and had their first son Barney Newton McCoy there in 1891 and their second son Joseph Harvey McCoy, Jr. there in 1892. By the time their third son was born in 1895, they were living in Bienville Parish, Louisiana.
