You're right. They were in Hancock County in 1850. The heading on the census sheet I was working from had been cut off.

The LDS site had a marriage record for William McCoy and Catharine Stephenson on May 22, 1845 in Pickaway County. Nathan's death certificate has his mother's name as Stevens. It seems like I found both names in the 1850 census in Pickaway County, but I didn't make copies of them.

Nathan's birthday was August 25. The 1850 census was taken in September and said he was 3 so I believe his birth year was 1847. He was almost twice his second wife's age when they were married so I think he started shaving off years. If you'll notice William ages about 14 years each census. I don't think they were good at keeping track of their ages.

I'll go back and check the land records again. It's been awhile and they could have added more.

Thanks for your help,

Jane Beyers
