Here is a William McCown from S.C. He may not be yours. He was a son of John & Jane McCown. John was a son of James Jr. McCown and a Grand sonson of James Sr. McCown ( one of the six brothers). Her is a summary of John & jane's will: A Will for John & Jane McCown was recorded on 27 April 1829, and
indication of probate on 18 July 1830 in Lauren's County, part of the old 96th district (Found in a book on the abstracts of wills 1755 to 1855). List all my grandchildren. Children of son William McCown, William, John, Samuel, Patrick, Martha, Mary; Daughters children of Elizabeth (McCown ) Reed: Jonathon Reed, David Reed, Elizabeth Reed, Martha Reed, Jane Reed; EXR's son William McCown, & Jonathan
Reed. Witness James & Alexander Austin, & John C. Campbell.
