This is what I have found on the Va. Moses. With what I have seen, I believe he is a brother of John, probably related to Francis. This data would indicate that if he went to S.C. he either did not stay long or there is a third Moses involved. I don't know who William is, but I do not believe he is related to the S.C. McCowns. Jim McCown Moses McCown of Rock Bridge County, Virginia From records of Augusta County Virginia 1734-1800 Vol I, II and III 6453735 John McCown of Rochbridge vs. McCampbell - O.S. 180; N.S. 64 -- Orator's father, John McCown (brother of Moses McCown), was an early settler on Broden's tract and had purchased the right Thomas Kindel and -----, amounting to 437 acres. Disputes arose between Broden, Jr. and Moses McCown (to whom John, Sr. had assigned) and Francis Beasty made a survey, and on 31st March 1750, James Trimble, Borden's surveyor (whose notes were filed in suit Borden vs. The People), made a survey. Moses moved to Carolina and assigned to William McCown, who lived in Caolina. (This suit was formerly noted.)
