Years ago, my grandfather, Archibald McCoun, had me type pages 606-610 from an old volume, Collins History Of Kentucky, which gives an account of James McCoun, the McAfees and Samuel Adams venturing forth into the wilderness over Cumberland Gap. Especially interesting is the account of the kidnapping and torture of Joseph McCoun by the Shawnee Indians. It can be found at http://members.aol.com/Susanella3/McCounhistory.html I've been researching many several branches of my family and haven't found a more helpful and accommodating forum! Way to go, my fellow clansmen and women! My tree, in brief: Susanella Noble -> Kathleen McCoun b.1918 IA -> Archibald McCoun b. 1892 IA -> James (William) McCoun b.1860 IA -> Leonard T. McCoun b.1832 KY -> Leonard T. McCoun b. 1800 KY -> John McCoun b.1754 VA -> James McCown b. 1716 Ire to KY -> James McCoun b. 1660 Scot -> James McCoun b. 1637 Scot to Ire -> James McCoun b. 1601 I'd love to hear from any cousins out there! Thanks, Susanella
