I'm a McCowan from Nora, VA where you stated that James McCowan was buried. I have several relatives buried on Smith Ridge and know the area well. I also have an aunt that researches our family name in depth. I don't know a great deal about the subject you interested in, but I could direct you to my aunt or maybe even find out some info for you. My Father is Norman Allen McCowan of Nora, VA and my grandfather is John McCowan also of Nora. I know that my grandfather is originally from the Pikeville, KY area.
