Yes! This is the same family. I have the information you mentioned with Charles and Mary Ann marrying. Charles was the older brother to my great-great grandmother, Margaret (Maggie) McCowan who came to the USA to be with her fiance, George Wood, my gg-grandfather. They married about 4 days after she arrived. The family settled in the Neosho, Newton County, Missouri area. Charles was about the 5th (known) child of Alexander and Janet (Jessie). Alexander was born or christened on 10 Sep 1815 and died 18 Jul 1889 at Dalginross, Comrie, Perth, Scotland. My gg-grandmother, mentioned it in a letter she wrote also. Alexander was the son of Peter McCowan and Unknown (possibly Annie) McNab per his death certificate. Janet Kemp was born abt 1816 in Scotland and died 6 Mar 1897 in Dalginross also. She is listed as the daughter of James Kemp and Mary Storie. I believe they were married on 17 Dec 1841 in Comrie, Perth.

Children:
1. Peter McCowan (b. 6 Apr 1843 in Comrie-d. 8 Apr 1894 at 123 High Street, Perth) married Janet Methven (b. 25 Sep 1843 in Dunning, Perth-d. 26 Oct 1895 in Perth and daughter of Andrew Methven(b. abt 1822-d. 6 Dec 1903 in Tibbermore, Perth) and Catherine Keay (b. abt 1824 in Madderly, Perth-d. 23 Mar 1899 in Tibbermore.)I have info on their children too.
2. Janet McCowan (b. abt 1845-d. 11 Jul 1929 at St. Leonards, Dalginross, Comrie, Perth) married Duncan McAinsh in 1883 in Comrie.
3. James McCowan (b. 1846-d. 14 Jun 1926 in Dalginross) married Jane Wilson Alexander (b. abt 1854-d. bef 1934) on 20 Jun 1873 in Comrie. I have info on their children too.
4. Alexander McCowan (b. abt 15 Jul 1848 in Comrie-d. 18 Jan 1931 in Comrie) married Ann McKay (b. abt 1856 in Edinburgh-d. 28 Nov 1915 in Comrie. They married 31 Dec 1880 in Edinburgh. Ann is listed as daughter of James McKay and Mary Thomson. I have info on Alex and Ann's children.
5. Charles McCowan - only know that he was born in 1851 in Comrie and married Mary Ann Sharp (b. abt 1856 in Comrie) on 25 Dec 1878 in Comrie. Don't have any info except marriage info listed her parents as James Sharp and Ellen McEwan, who were still alive when they married.
6. Mary Anne McCowan (b. 1853-d. 28 Mar 1934 at St. Leonard's, Dalginross, Comrie. She was a retired housekeeper and never married.
7. Jane McCowan-b. 1856. She was living with her parents in 1871 census, was 15 and a servant. Don't know what happened to her.
8. My gg-grandmother-Margaret McCowan (b. 15 Jul 1858 in Dalginross-d. 10 Jun 1934 in Neosho, Newton Co, MO, USA. Buried in Hazel Green Cemetery, Neosho, MO. She married George Wood (b. 9 Apr 1856 in Cranshaws, Berwick, SCT-d. 7 Jul 1932 in Neosho.) Married 15 Jul 1887 in USA, probably in Missouri, since George's sister and her husband, who also immigrated with him, were living in Missouri with George. George/Maggie had 6 children. I have info on them. George was son of William Wood and Janet Fair. I have info on all of them also, if you want to go into those branches. George's older brother John has stuff on the internet about him. He was a photographer in Coldingham. At one time, the Coldingham site had lots of his pictures, but they are redoing their site, and I don't know if they have added the info back yet.
9. Robert McCowan (b. 7 Jan 1861 in Comrie-d. 14 Sep 1941 at 16 Park Crescent, Scone and Kinnoull, Perth) married Barbara Carnegie Wilson (b. 5 Nov 1863 in Arbirlot, Forfar, SCT-d. 15 Feb 1954 at 5 Douglas Cottage, Scone and Kinnoull, Perth) on 29 Apr 1885 in Perth. I have info on their children. Barbara was daughter of John Comrie Wilson and Jessie Kidd Scott.

You can also write me directly at shari.hoover @ verizon.net . I would like to find info about Charles and Mary Ann's lines! Hope this helps.

Shari
