Hi Neil,
Thanks for your reply. I have hired a professional researcher to look into my McCourt line. I should have some results back by summer (I hope). I have not been able to find my grandfather's original date of arrival, what ship, or port. I have checked several using the microfilms at my local LSD library. I was hoping that would tell me exactly when he came, where he was from, and if he was traveling with anyone. Other records I have found on him say he came over in either 1886 or 1887. The next time I find him on anything is in 1889 in Kansas City, Missouri. By the next year he is in Omaha, Nebraska. I believe he was working at the packing plants -- he was a butcher, and ran a grocery store in Omaha. So where he was between 1887-89 I don't know. And I don't know if he came with other relatives or not.
When I hear back from the researcher I will let you know -- or if I turn up anything else on my own. Thanks for your help. Kathy
