Rose,
This is what I have as a post on the Clinton Co., Mo site. HOpe this helps someone as I havent gotten any help yet.
Am still looking for the ancestors of my gggg grandparents John and Mahalla Ann (Long) McCorkle.
In 1850 John was with his parents in Ray county.
In 1860 I can not locate him on the census.
In 1870 he appears with his wife Mahala and children Samuel, Ann, Joseph, Nancy, John, Eliza, Franklin, and Mollie.
In 1880 I do not find John and Mahala as they died before this time. Mahala is buried in a small farm comunity cemetery in Platte county along with one child and I believe her husband John is probably buried in an un marked grave nearby. Thier children appear in the Clinton county Census for the first time as such:
Hardin Twp.
Head McCorkle SB (Samuel),wife M.E. (Mary Etta Grooms)Children, A. E. (Alfred E.), Pandora, J. B. (John B.)
Head McCorkle A. J. (Joseph), Nancy (sister), Mollie (sister), Eliza (sister), Frank (brother), Leonard (brother)
The John listed on the 1870 census may be the grave that I found with Mahala as I did not see him listed on the 1880 census anywhere.
1900 Clinton county census
In the 1900 census Joseph is still in Hardin twp. listed with the following family:
Mary M. (wife) children: Loma D., Ida B., and Henry G.
Samuel died before the 1900 census but his wife Mary is listed in Lafayette Twp with children; Alpha E., John B., Maud D., and Anna P.
in 1910 John B. McCorkle, brother to Alfred E. McCorkle, is listed in Clinton co with his family Anna wife, Children Samuel H. Eva L. and George L.
Joseph A. McCorkle (Spelled McCorkel) is still in Clinton county. Would like to obtain a copy of his death certificate to see who in fact his parents were. He is listed with his wife Amanda (?)1900 it was Mary M., children Loma and Henry.
If any of this looks familiar please contact me.
