McConnells in Donegal Co. to Nova Scotia
I am looking for information about McConnells that came to Nova Scotia Canada from Donegal County, Ireland sometime in
the 1830's.Duncan McConnell with his wife Catherine (McDouglas) came with two children, possibly Bernard and Margaret and possibly with two other children, Jane and Emma, sisters to Duncan. They were headed to Portland Maine to join relatives and were shipwrecked off Liverpool, NS and settled later on in Port Medway, NS. Other children born in Canada were Capt. John, Hannah, Capt. Charles, Thomas (Tommie) and Hugh. I believe Bernard's children went to the US. I am trying to decipher Bernard's will that has information on that.
The parents of Duncan were Bryan and Hannah McConnell of County Donegal.I can't get any further than that. The date 1830-1840 is approximate.Duncan was born in Ireland either 1795 or 1797. His wife was born in 1809. They had two children when they left Ireland.Their son Charles was born in 1841 in Nova Scotia so they had to have emigrated prior to that. I can't find the name of the ship or the place in Donegal they left. If anyone knows anything about these people I would love to hear from you.
