I hoped you checked out this blog at www.writetotheheart.wordpress.com.
The McConnells of these letters are the descendants of Revolutionary War veteran, Robert McConnell (ca1758-1805) of Franklin Co PA: Francis, Joseph, James, Elizabeth Gedde, Isabella Walker, Jane, Robert Jr., John, Martha Walker, Mary. They either immigrated themselves to Hancock Co IL, wrote letters to those who did, or saved letters from the pioneers.
In Illinois, they continued to intermarry with the three other families of Franklin Co PA who immigrated to Illinois in tandem and settled there as neighbors -- the Geddes Family, the Walker Family, and the Campbell Family.
However, the book also provides considerable historical and speculative material on how these McConnells might relate to others of the region-- the McConnells of present Fulton Co PA (Great Cove settlements like McConnellsburg and Burnt Cabins) and the McConnells who fought alongside George Rogers Clark and Daniel Boone near present Lexington KY.Those histories are a jumble of McConnells with recurring given names -- James, William, Alexander, Robert, Francis.
If you wish to be kept abreast of the progress of that book, please leave a message on the blogsite or contact me at [email protected].
Barb
