Hello, I don't know if this helps or even applies to your McConnell family but here goes. In Muhlenberg Co, Kentucky, there were several families living there in the early 1800's that originated in Franklin Co, Pa and from there, I am not sure where they were before getting to Muhlenberg Co. However, my Cessna family was there along with the Culbertson's. My 4th gr grandfather, John Culbertson, and his son-in-law, my 3rd gr grandfather, Robert Cessna, arrived in Logan/Muhl Co in 1796. The Cessna's and Culbertson's were from the communities in and around Lurgan and Letterkenny, in Franklin Co. Also living nearby in the community of Green was the Sharp family. My Robert is believed to have been a brother to Sallie "Sarah" Cessna. Sallie Cessna married James Sharp in 1802 in Muhlenberg Co. In researching the Sharp family and the Culbertson's, I was able to find a Joannah Culbertson, niece of my 4th gr granddad, John, had been married to a Robert Sharp. In tracking this family back to Franklin Co, I have found a Capt James Sharp, believed to have been the father of Robert. Capt James Sharp was married to a Margaret Agnes McConnell. Margaret was the daughter of a Lt. Robert McConnell and a Rosanna ?????, last name unknown. The Will of Robert McConnell, of Letterkenny Township, dated July 27, 1771....mentions his sons, Robert McConnell, James McConnell, John McConnell, son-in-law, James Sharp (Margaret Agnes'husband), another son-in-law, Alexander McConnell, another son-in-law, Robert McConnell (more cousins marrying cousins!!) and another daughter who is referred in the will as "widow Boyd". I have a document that lists a Copy of Indenture, dated Dec 7th, 1774 between Capt James Sharp and Agnes his wife of Letterkenny Township, Cumberland Co (that became Franklin Co.Robert McConnell is buried at Rocky Springs Church graveyard in Franklin Co....b. 1702, d. 1777. Rosannah died in 1790 (1770. Near her grave there is a Donald McConnell, who died July 29, 1776, age 75. This is possibly a brother to Robert. Pew Members of the Rocky Springs Presbyterian Church in Franklin Co, Pa from 1768-1794.........Col Samuel Culbertson (father of Joannah Culbertson Sharp), Capt James Sharp, Capt John McConnell, Capt Alexander Culbertson (my 5th gr grandfather and brother to Col Samuel Culbertson) Alexander McConnell, in one pew there is listed Robert McConnell, John McConnell, James McConnell, Donald McConnell. Capt James and Margaret Agnes were the parents of Mathew, William, Robert, Mary, Rosanna. Robert Sharp married Joannah Culbertson. Joannah had a brother named Robert Culbertson who married his cousin Elizabeth Lindsey. When Robert died, his widow Elizabeth married Mathew Sharp, son of James and Agnes. Remember that these people are 1/2 McConnell and grandchildren of Lt.Robert McConnell and wife Rosanna. Mary Sharp, listed above, was married to Capt Alexander CULBERTSON. Alexander was a brother to my 4th gr grandfather, John and their father was Capt Alexander Culbertson. Joannah Culbertson Sharp and Robert Culbertson were children of Col. Samuel Culbertson and Col. Samuel and Capt Alexander were brothers who settled 'Culbertson Row' in Franklin Co and came from Antrim Co, Ireland. Any McConnells that settled Kentucky in the 1790's...I'd check the Franklin Co, Pa records. My thought is that they dropped down from Franklin Co into Maryland and then into Kentucky...and then moving West into Muhlenberg Co....and they traveled as a group. In Muhlenberg Co, there is a James McConnell there and I am sure that he is a family member. Also, Rosannah Sharp, the daughter of Joannah Culbertson and Robert Sharp was married to Henry Ferguson Glenn, a son of Andrew Glenn and Nancy Ferguson....more Irish from PA. They were all intermarried for several generations. By the way, my Robert Cessna? We haven't yet proven except circumstantially, but he is believed to be a son of Col Charles Cessna and his wife Elizabeth Culbertson. Elizabeth being a sister to Capt John Culbertson and a daughter to Capt Alexander Culbertson. Charles Cessna had land in the township of Lurgan, next to Letterkenny, where all of the Sharps and McConnells and Culbertson Row were from. Hope this gives the McConnells some help is some small way. Please include me in the McConnell research because every family leaf uncovered is uncovering another leaf in one of my familes. Question: Have you found any Culbertsons, Cessnas, Fergusons, Sharps, Glenns, Boyds, Lindseys, in any of the McConnell families in Kentucky outside of Muhlenberg Co.? That would be a huge clue that you are tracking the same people. Best wishes, Cheryl Cessna California Notify Administrator about this message?
