Just did some quick check-ups online. My James Ralston was in Rockville, Parke Co., IN with Cordelia in 1870.They have 2 children, Mary N., and Dolphus F.
In 1880 Cordelia is married to Isaac R. Anderson and living in Terra Haute, Vigo Co., IN.Cordelia's son, Dolphus Ralston and another younger daughter, Maggie C. Ralston are living with them.According to Indiana marriage collection, Cordelia was married to Isaac R, Anderson on 12/9/1876, andJohn L. McConnell (my ancestor) 1/20/1884, both in Vigo Co.
Cordelia was apparently a White. Her cousin, Harriet Sharp, is living with Isaac and Cordelia in 1880.If you track back, Cordelia can be found living in her grandparents' home (John and Elizabeth Sharp) in 1850 in District 85, Parke Co., and in Montezuma, Parke Co. in 1860.
James Ralston is listed as James H. Ralston in the 1870 census.According to that census he was born in 1838 in Indiana, occupation-boot and shoe maker. In the 1860 census, there is a James R. Ralston married to an 18-yr-old Isabel in Parke Co.He was b. 1837, IN, also a boot and shoe maker, so I'm guessing they are one and the same.
Also living in Rockville in 1870 are what are probably James' parents--Joseph Ralston, b. 1805 TN, and wife Ann, b. 1820 TN.Another Joseph b. 1835 TN that was living in Rockville with his family was probaably a brother.
It doesn't sound like this family is connected to your line, but someone else may recognize it.I haven't researched it very thoroughly as I am pretty new to genealogy and am concentrating on individuals in my direct line first.
Thanks for responding and taking an interest.
