Your posting prompted me to do some checking and my Austin McConnell is not yours.Mine is listed in the 1850 census as living in Cool Spring Twp., Mercer County, PA with his mother and several sibs (page 346 of the Mercer county census book). He's 25 years of age on Sept. 1, 1850.
There is still a thread here that you might want to investigate.Philip McConnell, the father of my Austin McConnell, was one of nine brothers who lived to adulthood. All of them moved to Trumbull County, OH with their parents in 1799 (Philip was 25 years old).He was likely already married to Mary Austin at that time. It's entirely possible that one of his brothers also married one of the Austin daughters.
The other eight brothers were John, William, Alexander, David, Matthew, Joseph, Sampson, and James.I have alot on James' family and there's no Austin there. His only wife was Hannah Battles. As James was born in 1795 and was the youngest, any of these other brothers is a candidate for your ancestor. The only entry that I have for the other brothers is that they all "moved west."This leads me to believe that Philip was the oldest since he stayed in Poland Center for several years after his father died. There are various references to McConnells in other parts of Ohio that might be one of these brothers but I've never done any investigation of these possibilities.
Good luck.If I can help in any way, please let me know.
