McConochie Family story
Hi
After a few years of doing McConochie I have found little information on the McConochie family in Scotland. But I do have a story that has came up in family's discussions.
Family story is that there were 5 boys and the parents past away. The oldest boy (they believe) and a perist told over the horse breeding farm. The other 4 boys were left in the cold. They had no money so they went to the harbor to jump on a ship to the United State. It was day light so they wanted to wait until night. When it was night the 4 brothers jumped on two ships. Two made it to United States and the other made it to Australia.
We do not have a name for the brother that came to the State with John William McConochie, (William).
One of William's sons was named Rob Roy McConochie. Family say that Rob did some looking for his family information. About five years ago, I received some letters that were wrote by Rob Roy in 1912. Rob's son had them it a wooden box. I have been trying to make sense of there letters. See mices and mold got to alot of them and the hand writing is small. These letters are from a Wm McConochie and Sons, Contractors and Builders, Residence,2513 Seventh Avenue, Rock Island, ILL and a Tha. H. Thompson.
One of the letters to Rob Roy McConochie recieved stated this:
I think I told you that your Great-Grand Father is buried in Lagg Parish of gloncaw and your Grand father John McConochie buried in Malin Meetinghouse Parish of Clumcha Donegeece, Ireland and I told you that he come hair (there) about 60 or 62 years ago from glasgaw Scoland and bought the Conaugh Farm and it was no small afair either I do wish I could tell you about the Stallion that the McConachie brought to that County.
Farther on in the letter (what I can read) It stated a Rebacca Beard of Lower Belecrenroka Parish of Glowcrow.
Then it stated that Rob Roy McConochie was named after was an Rob Roy McGreager one of the clans men as late as the 17 century.
I know some of the spelling maybe wrong but it the best I can do will very old letter. SORRY.
I hope that someone out there can benefit from some of the information in these letter. Hope to find some long lost family. The letter can not be handled much.
